This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X80-30S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X80-30S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-30S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 80mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80-30S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ12X80-30S runs a 12 mm bore over an 80 mm stroke that a stop screw trims by up to 30 mm on site, giving a usable 50-80 mm range. Push force is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 80 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a made-to-order item. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim fixtures and guarded assemblies. The -S code on this unit means the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body. As a buyer rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X80-30S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X80-30S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×80 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 50-80 mm trimmed stroke ejects finished clips or pins from a nest, with the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa enough for parts under about 3 kg lifted vertically.
Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches report extend and retract at the trimmed end position, 30-500 mm/s, without external encoders.
Pull force of 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa retracts the M3x0.5 female-threaded rod to clear the product path, and the fixed TPU bumpers soften both ends.
Size against neighbours: the 16 mm bore doubles the push to 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa, while the 10 mm class below this range will not reach 56.5 N, so 12 mm sits at the light end for small clamps and gates. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold a load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet pairs with CMSE / DMSE switches. For new builds, order the ACEJ12X80 instead, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um, port M5x0.8, rod 6 mm with M3x0.5 female thread. The 80 mm stroke is a non-standard, made-to-order length because the bore 12 maximum standard stroke is 50 mm.
The -30 code sets a 30 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 80 mm extend stroke on site to any length from 50 to 80 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered value. The stop is an end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. This ACPJ is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X80 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class; confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
