This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X80-40B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X80-40B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-40B

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-40B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 80mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80-40B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-40B

The ACPJ12X80-40B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 80 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 40-80 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. This unit is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80 in the same bore, stroke and force class.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures, small guards and tight gantries. A practical sizing rule: at 0.5 MPa plan on roughly 34 N (about 3.5 kgf) of real work, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The 80 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order stroke. No magnet is fitted; the optional -S code adds one for CMSE / DMSE switches.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X80-40B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Where the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-40B Is Used

compress

Micro part clamping

Holds small electronics or watch-movement components in a machining fixture, where the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough and the 40-80 mm trimmed stroke clears loading hands.

sensors

Slide ejection on compact assemblies

Ejects finished parts from a small plastic-injection or die-cast slide, using the male rod thread to pick up a custom pusher plate.

tune

Adjustable test-rig actuator

Acts as a light push station on a benchtop leak or assembly test rig, where the stop screw sets the exact extend position between 40 and 80 mm.

Replacing the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-40B with the ACEJ12X80-40B

At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force step: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for a 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for a 20 mm bore. Choose it for light clamping and positioning under about 34 N of working load; step up to 16 or 20 mm if the part is heavier. The male rod thread (B code) suits knuckle and bracket attachments, and the 40 mm adjustment window covers jigs that need a trimmed extend stroke. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ACEJ12X80 before swapping from this discontinued model.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-40B FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends and an M5x0.8 port. The 80 mm stroke is a made-to-order length, since the bore 12 standard maximum is 50 mm.

The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 80 mm extend stroke on site, so the working range is 40-80 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it never holds a load. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X80 (P changed to E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP is DIN-standard. If you need position sensing, order the -S magnet version for CMSE / DMSE switches.
