This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X80-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X80-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 80mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder works double acting: air both extends and retracts the 6 mm rod. The -40 code adds a 40 mm adjustment window, so a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 40-80 mm range on site. At 0.5 MPa the bore 12 body pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, enough for light clamping and small-part ejection. Note that the 80 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 12, so this unit is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in slim fixtures and guarded cells. The magnet is the optional -S code and this model carries it, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be fitted for end-of-stroke sensing. Plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 60% of the rated push), which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is ACEJ12X80, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X80-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

The ACEJ12X80-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40-80 mm trimmed extend stroke lets one cylinder eject parts of different heights from a nest without re-plumbing, with 56.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa for light plastic components.
The fitted -S magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches confirm extend and retract inside a short body that saves about 50% of the length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.
About 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa (roughly 2.9 kg vertical with margin) is enough to clamp thin boards against a fixture, with the fixed TPU bumper softening both ends.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to bore 16 for 100.5 N; if the load is a few grams, bore 12 is already the smallest in the family. The 40 mm window suits a fixture where product sizes vary and the extend stroke is trimmed rather than changed. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop only - it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, and on air loss the rod can drift, so add a separate clamp for load holding. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. This model is discontinued; order ACEJ12X80 as the current replacement and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull is 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 80 mm extend stroke to any value from 40 to 80 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock. The 80 mm stroke is non-standard for bore 12 (max standard 50 mm), so it is made to order.
This unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches mount directly on the body for end-of-stroke signalling. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X80 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ACEJ before swapping, and check the M5x0.8 port and FA/FB or LB mounting match.
