This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X80-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X80-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 80mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X80-40SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 80 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 40-80 mm. This 12 mm bore unit delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 80 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order stroke. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X80.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3 kg vertical lift with a 2:1 margin) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it never holds a load.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X80-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X80-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×80 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40-80 mm adjustable window lets a jig builder dial in the exact eject stroke for connector or pin removal, with 56.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa enough for light plastic parts.
With the fitted magnet driving CMSE or DMSE switches, a lab bench can confirm the clamp has reached its trimmed end position before a measurement cycle starts.
At 0.7 MPa the 79.2 N push seats small bushings or dowels in electronics housings, and the short body fits inside a benchtop press frame where a longer cylinder cannot.
Size both ways before committing: the 16 mm bore pushes 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa if 56.5 N is marginal, while the 12 mm bore keeps force and footprint minimal for light clamping. The male rod thread (B code) suits I/Y knuckles and external tooling; FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. If you need position sensing, this -S version already carries the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, order the ACEJ12X80 instead and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 12 mm bore uses an M5x0.8 port, the 6 mm rod carries a male thread (B code), and the extend stroke is adjustable from 80 mm down to 40 mm via the stop screw. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The 80 mm stroke is made to order, since the bore 12 standard maximum is 50 mm.
Order the ACEJ12X80, the current-production ISO 21287 replacement: swap the P for an E and you get the same bore, stroke and force class in a matching short body. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, because the ACPJ was built to a DIN-standard compact format. The ACEJ also accepts the same FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings and supports the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches.
