This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X80-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X80-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 80mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ12X80-40 is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and an 80 mm stroke that a stop screw can trim by up to 40 mm, giving a usable extend range of 40-80 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 80 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim fixtures, small gantries and guarded stations. For sizing, plan on about 34 N (roughly 3.4 kg of thrust) of real work at 0.5 MPa, or think of it as lifting about 2.9 kg vertically once a 2:1 margin is applied. Note this unit has no magnet fitted - the optional -S code is what enables CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. Since the model is discontinued, order the current ACEJ12X80 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X80-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X80-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×80 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa (about 2.9 kg vertical lift with margin) clears light stamped connectors and lead frames from 12 mm-bore die stations where full-length cylinders cannot fit.
The 40 mm window lets a fixture builder dial the extend stroke between 40 and 80 mm to match shallow part pockets, with the fixed TPU bumper absorbing the stop at each end.
Low force and 30-500 mm/s speed suit small vial capping and sample pressing heads; the 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa handles gentle compression on light containers.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for the 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for the 20 mm bore, so step up a size if your part mass or friction load approaches the 2:1 margin. The 80 mm stroke is non-standard for this bore (standard tops out at 50 mm), so expect a made-to-order build. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not hold a load if air is lost. Female M3x0.5 rod thread, PT ports, M5x08 air connections, FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting. Replaced by the ACEJ12X80; verify ISO 21287 footprint dimensions before converting.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code gives a 40 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 40 mm and the full 80 mm with the external stop screw. The 80 mm stroke is a made-to-order length because the bore 12 standard maximum is 50 mm. The unit is double acting, runs on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) air filtered to 40 um, and moves at 30-500 mm/s.
Only if the optional -S magnet was ordered - this version has no magnet, so no CMSE or DMSE switch can be mounted. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80 (ISO 21287), a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, and use FA/FB flange or LB foot hardware from the same mounting family.
