This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X80-50S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X80-50S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-50S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 80mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80-50S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder trims its extend stroke on site: the -50 stop screw shortens the 80 mm stroke by up to 50 mm, giving a usable 30-80 mm range. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. The 80 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is made to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Because about 34 N of the rated push is a realistic working figure, the rod lifts roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for small covers, sensors or light fixtures. The -S magnet is fitted on this model, so CMSE / DMSE switches mount directly. Note: the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current drop-in is ACEJ12X80 - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X80-50S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X80-50S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×80 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 30-80 mm extend range lets a lab technician dial in the exact camera drop height over a PCB pallet, with the -S magnet feeding CMSE switch feedback to the controller.
At 56.5 N push the rod ejects 10 mL vials from a tray slot; the 2.9 kg vertical-lift margin covers the light tray weight with room to spare.
The short body mounts between conveyor frames where a full-length profile cylinder cannot, and the stop screw sets a repeatable 45 mm gate throw.
Size up if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal: the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N and the 20 mm bore 157.1 N at the same pressure. Size down only if the 42.4 N pull and 6 mm rod suit a lighter return task. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate clamp for holding. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. This unit carries the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. Replacement: ACEJ12X80.
Replacement checklist
Push 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; push 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa; theoretical maximum 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Bore 12 mm, stroke 80 mm (non-standard, made to order), adjustable window 50 mm, rod 6 mm with female M3x0.5 thread, port M5x0.8 (PT), speed 30-500 mm/s, pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, fixed TPU bumper both ends.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 50 mm window, so the rod can stop between 30 and 80 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 80 mm. The bumper is a fixed TPU pad at each end only. The ACPJ is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X80 in the same bore, stroke and force class; confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
