AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X80-50 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X80-50 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 80mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80-50 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder is double acting, so air drives the rod out and pulls it back, and the -50 code adds a 50 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the 80 mm extend stroke down to any setting in a 30-80 mm range. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 80 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod keeps the mounting length roughly 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixture plates and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. In practice, plan on about 34 N (roughly 3.4 kgf) of usable push at 0.5 MPa, enough to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X80, and you should confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

With the optional -S magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches, end-of-travel signals confirm each 80 mm index of a sample holder, all inside a body about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.
About 34 N of usable clamping force at 0.5 MPa holds delicate circuit boards or optical trays during a solder or inspection cycle, and the stop screw trims the stroke to the carrier height.
Size this bore when your load sits under about 34 N of real working force at 0.5 MPa; if you need more, the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push and the 20 mm bore 157.1 N at the same pressure. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate valve or lock if position must hold. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and if you need reed or solid-state switches, order the -S variant with the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE sensors - this version has no magnet fitted. For new projects, specify the ACEJ12X80 instead, as this ACPJ model is discontinued.
