AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-100S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-100S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-100S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This discontinued AirTAC ACPJ12X90-100S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 90 mm stroke on site within the ordered 100 mm window, so the usable range runs from near zero up to the full 90 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. The 90 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order build. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and speed is 30-500 mm/s.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixtures, small guarding frames and slim gantries. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped on for end-of-stroke signalling. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. For sizing, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3.5 kg) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating. The ACPJ family is no longer in production: the current drop-in is ACEJ12X90, but confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted magnet lets a CMSE switch confirm full extension before the pick-and-place cycle releases the next part, with the stop screw trimming the 90 mm stroke to match a shallow nest.
About 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa is enough to hold PCB covers or sensor housings during screwdriving without marking the surface.
The short body, roughly half the length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits inside bench-top leak or electrical test rigs where a full-length actuator will not clear the guard.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force class: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to bore 16 for 100.5 N or bore 20 for 157.1 N at the same pressure if the load is heavier. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and does not lock the piston, so on air loss the rod will drift - use a separate clamp if position must hold. The female M3x0.5 rod thread takes I/Y knuckles, and FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the face. This model carries the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. Order ACEJ12X90 as the current-production equivalent.
Replacement checklist

The -100 code gives a 100 mm adjustment window, so the stop screw can trim the 90 mm extend stroke down toward zero; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 90 mm. The 90 mm stroke is made to order, since bore 12 normally tops out at 50 mm standard.
The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X90 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. This unit already carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly; on replacements without the -S code there is no magnet, so order it if sensing is needed.
