This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder is double acting, with air driving the rod out and pulling it back, and its -20 code adds a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 70-90 mm range on site. The 90 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for a 12 mm bore, so it is a made-to-order build. It is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP body is DIN-standard.
At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa). Plan on roughly 34 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, the rod end is male thread (B code), and the fixed TPU bumper pads at both ends simply decelerate the piston - they never hold a load. No magnet is fitted on this version; order the -S code if you later need CMSE / DMSE switch sensing.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick light molded caps or clips off a benchtop mold, and the 70-90 mm trimmed stroke keeps the ejector tip inside a tight die set.
A 90 mm stroke swings a small guard or sample gate clear on an electronics test bench; the male rod thread (B) accepts a knuckle for a pivoting gate arm, and the -S magnet version can add CMSE / DMSE end-position switches.
About 2.9 kg of vertical press force with a 2:1 margin seats vials or seals foil liners in low-volume lab packaging, where the short body fits under a benchtop frame that a full-length profile cylinder cannot.
Size the bore both ways: the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa if 56.5 N falls short of your jig load, while a 10 mm-class compact unit is not in this range, so step down only if your force need is under about 34 N of real work. Remember the stop screw shortens the extend stroke only - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and the rod still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and I/Y rod knuckles suit the male rod thread. For new designs, order the ACEJ12X90 instead: same bore, stroke and force class, in current production.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 90 mm extend stroke to any length in a 70-90 mm range. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end and an M5x0.8 port.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with S45C hard-chrome rod is a short ISO 21287-class compact build that saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits shallow jigs and guards. This ACPJ model is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X90 (same 12 mm bore, 90 mm stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP body is DIN-standard, and note the 90 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore.
