This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 90 mm stroke by up to 20 mm on site, giving a usable range of 70-90 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and gantries. The 90 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is made to order.
The -S code on this model means the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body. The B code gives a male 6 mm rod with M3x0.5 male thread instead of a female end. For sizing, treat roughly 34 N (about 0.6 of the push force) as the realistic working output at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X90, and you should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejects microplate or vial samples from a fixture with 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, trimmed to 70-90 mm so the throw matches each rack depth without re-plumbing.
The fitted -S magnet drives CMSE or DMSE switches for end-position confirmation on a small electronics assembly slide running 30-500 mm/s.
Seats small connectors with about 34 N of realistic working force at 0.5 MPa, lifting roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 safety margin.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push or the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N at the same pressure if your part weight or clamp force needs more headroom. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock or hold a load if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and because the -S magnet is fitted here, CMSE / DMSE switches work out of the box. Order ACEJ12X90 as the current drop-in and verify the ISO 21287 footprint first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code is a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 90 mm extend stroke to any length from 70 to 90 mm. It runs on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) filtered air at 30-500 mm/s. The 90 mm stroke is a made-to-order length, since the bore 12 standard maximum is 50 mm.
The short ISO 21287-class body cuts mounting length by about 50% versus an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end and FA/FB flange or LB foot options on the standard face. This ACPJ model is discontinued: order ACEJ12X90, the current-production successor in the same bore, stroke and force class, and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap because the ACP follows the older DIN standard.
