This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X90-20 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 90 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable 70-90 mm range. In the 12 mm bore class it delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa, 11.5 kgf theoretical max at 1.0 MPa). The 90 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X90, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The short ISO 21287-style body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot fit. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the push rating), which lifts about 2.8 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, a female M3x0.5 rod thread, M5x0.8 ports and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. No magnet is fitted on this version; the optional -S code is what enables CMSE / DMSE switches.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 70-90 mm adjustable extend range lets a fixture builder trim the exact eject position for 2-3 kg machined pins, using the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa.
The short body, roughly half the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits inside guarding where a longer 12 mm bore body would collide with the frame.
The stop screw shortens the 90 mm stroke on site for light pressing of vials or coupons, with the 42.4 N pull force retracting the rod between cycles.
Size up if 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal: the 16 mm bore pushes 100.5 N and the 20 mm bore 157.1 N at the same pressure. Size down only if the 42.4 N pull force still covers your return load. Remember the stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can still drift if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet is required if you want CMSE / DMSE switch feedback. For new designs, order the ACEJ12X90 instead, since this ACPJ is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is a double acting 12 mm bore with a 90 mm made-to-order stroke (standard maximum for this bore is 50 mm), a 20 mm adjustment window, M5x0.8 ports, a female M3x0.5 rod thread, speed 30-500 mm/s, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and fixed TPU bumpers both ends.
Order the ACEJ12X90, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same bore, stroke and force class in a matching short body. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, because the ACPJ follows the older DIN-standard compact layout. Also note the -S magnet code if you need CMSE / DMSE switch positions on the replacement.
