This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-30B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-30B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-30B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-30B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ12X90-30B is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder: a 12 mm bore pushing 56.5 N (pulling 42.4 N) at 0.5 MPa, with a male 6 mm rod thread (the B code) and M5x0.8 ports. The -30 code gives a 30 mm adjustment window, so an external stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 60-90 mm range on site. Because the 90 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, it is a made-to-order build. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. For real-world sizing, plan on about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa - roughly a 2.9 kg vertical lift with a 2:1 margin - rather than the full 11.5 kgf theoretical rating. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X90, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. No magnet is fitted (the -S code is optional), so no CMSE / DMSE switch can be mounted unless that code is ordered.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-30B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-30B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 34 N usable push at 0.5 MPa is enough for light staking and marking of small aluminium connector housings, with the 60-90 mm trim range tuned per die.
The short body slots into cramped inspection stations where a full-length profile cylinder will not reach, ejecting 2-3 kg wafer trays vertically with margin.
Male rod thread plus FA flange makes a clean pivot for diverting small cartons on a packaging line, with the stop screw set to a 70 mm gate stroke.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the family: 56.5 N push / 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push, or downsize from a 16 if your part weighs under about 3 kg and you want a slimmer envelope. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate holding method if the load must stay put. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face; order the -S code if you later need CMSE / DMSE switches. For new projects, specify the ACEJ12X90 instead, since this ACPJ version is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -30 code sets a 30 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 90 mm extend stroke anywhere down to 60 mm. The fixed TPU bumpers only decelerate at the ends - the stop is not a load-holding brake. This model is discontinued; the ACEJ12X90 is the current drop-in, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
It is a short-body compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body and an S45C hard-chrome 6 mm rod, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. Ports are M5x0.8 (port depends only on bore), rod end is male thread (B code), and mounting is FA/FB flange or LB foot. The magnet is the optional -S code - this model has none, so CMSE / DMSE switches cannot be fitted unless you order -S. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), -20 to +70 C, 30-500 mm/s.
