This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-40B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-40B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-40B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-40B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X90-40B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 90 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 50-90 mm on site. Air works on both sides of the piston, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at each end. At 0.5 MPa this 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N of push and 42.4 N of pull, which works out to roughly 34 N of practical working force - enough to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that the 90 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 12, so this unit is made to order.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod keeps the short ISO 21287-class footprint about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X90, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. The male rod thread (B code) and PT ports are ready for standard fittings.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-40B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-40B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa secures small aluminium brackets during drilling, and the 50-90 mm trim range adapts the clamp point to different part heights without re-plumbing.
A 2.9 kg vertical lift capacity with a 2:1 margin clears PCB trays off a conveyor lane, and the male rod thread takes a standard knuckle for the pusher plate.
The short body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits inside the narrow frame of a semi-auto carton sealer where full-length bodies cannot.
At 12 mm bore you get 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa; step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N or down only if your load is under about 34 N of real work. The 40 mm window suits stations where product sizes vary and you re-trim the extend stroke per changeover. Remember the stop screw is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate clamp if you must hold position. If you need position feedback, order the -S variant with the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; this B-code unit has no magnet fitted. For new projects, specify the ACEJ12X90 instead, as this ACPJ model is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code gives a 40 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 50 and 90 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the 90 mm stroke is a made-to-order length since the bore 12 standard maximum is 50 mm.
The ACPJ12X90-40B is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X90, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series follows the DIN-standard footprint. For sensing, the magnet is the optional -S code: this unit has no magnet, so no CMSE or DMSE switch can be mounted. Order the -S version if you need reed or solid-state switch feedback.
