This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X90-40S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 90 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 50-90 mm on site. At the small 12 mm bore it delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Note that the 90 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order item.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim fixtures and guarded assemblies. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the push rating), which is about 3 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted magnet lets a CMSE switch confirm the 50-90 mm trimmed extend position before the PLC releases the next part into a 12 mm-bore eject nest rated around 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa.
The short body, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits under dial tooling plates where a full-length body would collide with the fixture.
About 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa lifts roughly 3 kg vertically with margin, enough to seat or reject small vials and trays at 30-500 mm/s.
Size both ways before ordering: the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa if 56.5 N is marginal, while stepping down is not possible below 12 mm in this family. The 40 mm window means your fixture stop can sit anywhere in the 50-90 mm range, but the adjuster is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold a load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings plus I/Y rod knuckles bolt to the standard face. This unit is discontinued; order the ACEJ12X90 as the drop-in successor and verify the ISO 21287 footprint first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um, port M5x0.8, female rod thread M3x0.5, fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The 90 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore.
Order the ACEJ12X90: swap the P for an E and you get the current-production ISO 21287 successor in the same 12 mm bore, 90 mm stroke and force class. Because the ACPJ is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions and the -S magnet option for CMSE / DMSE switches before committing the swap.
