This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -40 code gives a 40 mm stop-screw window, so the 90 mm stroke can be trimmed anywhere in a 50-90 mm range on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Because the short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, it slots into tight fixtures and guarding where a full-length body cannot.
Note that the 90 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 12, so this unit is a made-to-order build. A practical sizing rule: at 0.5 MPa plan on roughly 34 N of usable push (about 60% of the rating), which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The body is hard-anodized aluminium with an S45C hard-chrome rod, a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and the rod ends in a female M3x0.5 thread. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X90, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick a machined aluminium fitting off a locating pin, and the 50-90 mm adjustable range lets one setup serve several part lengths.
A short body that saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder fits under a bench-top gantry; add the -S magnet code if CMSE / DMSE switch feedback is needed later.
About 34 N of practical push at 0.5 MPa holds a thin-walled ABS enclosure against a fixture stop without marking the surface, with the TPU bumper softening end-of-travel contact.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to bore 16 for 100.5 N; if the load is light, bore 12 is already the smallest in the family. The 40 mm window suits stations where one cylinder must serve several product lengths. The stop screw trims the extend stroke only - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. No magnet is fitted on this code; order the -S version if you later need CMSE / DMSE switches. This model is discontinued - order ACEJ12X90 as the current replacement and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um. Port is M5x0.8, rod thread is female M3x0.5, and the 90 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12.
The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 90 mm extend stroke to any length in a 50-90 mm range. It is a mechanical end stop only - it never holds a load if air pressure is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X90 (same bore, stroke and force class), so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
