This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-50B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-50B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-50B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-50B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X90-50B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -50 stop screw trims the 90 mm stroke by up to 50 mm on site, giving a usable range of 40-90 mm. This 12 mm bore unit delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa), with a male rod thread (B code) and M5x0.8 ports. Note the 90 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is made to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures where a full-length body cannot. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston, and the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod. For sizing, halve the 5.8 kg vertical-lift equivalent of the push force and plan on lifting about 2.9 kg with a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X90 - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-50B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-50B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40-90 mm trimmable extend stroke lets a die setter dial in ejection travel for stamped connectors, while the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clears light aluminum offcuts.
A 6 mm male-thread rod drives sample trays inside tight analyzer housings where the short body saves about half the length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.
Running at 30-500 mm/s, the cylinder folds carton flaps on a blister line; the 50 mm adjustment window absorbs product size changes without re-plumbing.
At 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and positioning; step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push) if loads approach 34 N of real work, or down from 16 mm if space is tighter. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not hold a load if air is lost. No magnet is fitted on this version (no S code), so no CMSE / DMSE switch can be mounted; order an -S variant if sensing is needed. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. Replaced by the ACEJ12X90.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan on roughly 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s.
The -50 code is a 50 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 90 mm extend stroke to any length from 40 to 90 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
