This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-50SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-50SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-50SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-50SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ12X90-50SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 90 mm stroke by up to 50 mm, giving a usable range of 40-90 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa), and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches for end-position sensing. The 90 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is made to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits cramped jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot fit. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the male (B) rod thread suits knuckle brackets. Plan on roughly 34 N (about 3.5 kgf) of real work at 0.5 MPa, or lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note: this model is discontinued; the current drop-in is ACEJ12X90 - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-50SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-50SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clears lightweight molded caps and clips off small cores, and the 40-90 mm adjustable range lets one mold station handle several part heights.
With the fitted -S magnet and CMSE switches at both ends, a bench-top electronics tester confirms the probe has fully retracted before the next board loads.
About 2.9 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin presses labels or gaskets onto cosmetic jars, with the stop screw set to match each container height.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your load, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa); if the load is under about 40 N, the same 12 mm bore in a shorter fixed-stroke ACP may be cheaper. The 50 mm window suits stations where one cylinder serves several part lengths - set the stop screw once, no re-plumbing. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings plus I/Y knuckles bolt to the ISO 21287 face. This unit is discontinued: order ACEJ12X90 as the current-production replacement and verify mounting dimensions against the ISO 21287 drawing.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code gives a 50 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 40 and 90 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The 90 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12.
The short-body build saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits tight fixtures and guarding. The ACPJ family is no longer in production; the current drop-in is ACEJ12X90 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows the older DIN-standard footprint. The male rod thread and M5x0.8 ports carry over by bore size.
