This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X90-50 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X90-50 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X90-50 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 90mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X90-50 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X90-50 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke. A stop screw trims the 90 mm stroke by up to 50 mm on site, giving a usable range of 40-90 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push. As a rule of thumb, plan for about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which is roughly 3 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. Note that the 90 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length cylinder cannot. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the rod end is a female M3x0.5 thread with M5x0.8 ports. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X90, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. No magnet is fitted unless the optional -S code is ordered, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X90-50 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X90-50 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×90 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40-90 mm trimmed stroke ejects finished micro-components from a jig, with the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa enough for light plastic or stamped parts.
Order the -S code to add the magnet, then CMSE or DMSE switches flag end-of-stroke on a compact electronics test fixture where space rules out a long-body cylinder.
The short body, about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, clamps circuit-board covers inside cramped machine guards, with the stop screw set to the exact clamp gap.
Size up if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal: the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N and the 20 mm bore 157.1 N at the same pressure. If you need a fixed stroke instead of a trimmed one, the plain ACP covers that job, and the ACPD double-rod version handles guided or double-sided loads. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only, so on air loss the piston still drifts and cannot hold a load mid-stroke. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and CMSE / DMSE switches work only when the optional -S magnet is ordered. For new projects, specify the ACEJ12X90 instead.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N. Theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The bore is 12 mm with a 6 mm rod, female M3x0.5 rod thread and M5x0.8 ports, running 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). The 90 mm stroke is made to order because the bore's standard maximum is 50 mm.
The -50 code is a 50 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere between 40 and 90 mm, though it never extends past the ordered stroke and it does not lock the load if air is lost. Fixed TPU bumpers decelerate at both ends. The ACPJ12X90-50 is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X90 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
