AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X100-30 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X100-30 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 100mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X100-30 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ16X100-30 is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 16 mm bore, a 100 mm made-to-order stroke and a 30 mm trim window. A stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere in that window, so the rod can be set between roughly 70 and 100 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, and the hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod keeps the whole package short enough to save about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.
Plan on about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which is roughly 6 kg of vertical lift with a sensible margin. The fixed TPU bumper at each end only decelerates the piston; it never locks or holds a load, so on air loss the rod still drifts. Position sensing needs the optional -S magnet code, and since this unit is discontinued the current-production drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACEJ16X100 - confirm its mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa ejects finished connectors or terminal blocks from a nest, and the 30 mm window lets a technician trim the extend stroke to match each fixture without changing cylinders.
Mounted under a light-duty belt line, the rod rises to stop 8 mm-pin pallets between stations; with the -S magnet code, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the up position in tight space where a full-length body will not fit.
About 6 kg of practical vertical force seats microplate lids or vial caps repeatably, and the short ISO 21287-class body slots into a benchtop guard where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder is simply too long.
Size the load first: 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suits light clamping and indexing, while a 12 mm bore (56.5 N) is too weak and a 20 mm bore (157.1 N) adds force you may not need. The 100 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so it is made to order. Choose the female M4x0.7 rod thread as coded here, or add B for male thread; FA/FB flange or LB foot mountings bolt to the same face family. If you need reed or solid-state switches, order the -S magnet version - without it no CMSE / DMSE sensor can be fitted. For new designs, specify the ACEJ16X100 instead.
Replacement checklist
