This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X100-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X100-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X100-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 100mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X100-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ16X100-40S carries a 16 mm bore and a 100 mm stroke trimmed by a 40 mm stop-screw window, so the working range is 60-100 mm. Push force is 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N at 0.7 MPa), enough for light clamping and part-presenting duty. The 100 mm stroke is above the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so this unit is made to order. Note the 100 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard limit for this bore, so AirTAC builds it to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in tight jigs and guarding. Because the -S code is on this model, the magnet is fitted and CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly. For sizing, plan on about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of rated push), and in vertical terms it lifts about 5 kg with a 2:1 margin. This ACPJ series is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ16X100 - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X100-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X100-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×100 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Snap-fitting small plastic covers on an assembly bench: 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa gives about 60 N of usable clamping force, and the 60-100 mm adjustable range lets the operator set the press depth per product.
Ejecting finished bushings from a machining fixture, with CMSE switches reading extend and retract because the -S magnet is fitted. The short body tucks under the fixture plate where a full-length cylinder would not fit.
Folding top flaps on 200 g cartons at up to 500 mm/s: the 16 mm bore has ample force, the female M4x0.7 rod thread accepts a standard knuckle, and the 40 mm window trims the stroke to the flap height.
Compare force classes before ordering: bore 12 gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa and bore 20 gives 157.1 N, so the 16 mm sits between them at 100.5 N. If your load needs more than about 60 N of usable thrust, step up to bore 20. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 40 mm window - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. Mounting options are FA/FB flange or LB foot, the rod end is female M4x0.7, and ports are M5x0.8 PT. Since ACPJ is discontinued, order ACEJ16X100 as the current equivalent and verify the ISO 21287 footprint against your fixture.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code sets a 40 mm adjustment window, so the 100 mm extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere down to 60 mm with the stop screw. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the 100 mm stroke is a made-to-order length since bore 16 standard tops out at 75 mm.
It is a short-body compact cylinder whose mounting length is about 50% less than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder of the same bore, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end and a hard-anodized aluminium body. The ACPJ family is no longer in production: order ACEJ16X100, the current ISO 21287 successor in the same bore, stroke and force class, and confirm the mounting dimensions against your fixture before the swap.
