This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X100-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X100-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X100-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 100mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X100-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ16X100-40SB is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 16 mm bore, a 100 mm made-to-order stroke and a 40 mm trim window. A stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site, giving a usable range of 60-100 mm; it trims the stroke only and never holds a load if air is lost. Push force is 100.5 N and pull is 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa. The male rod thread (B code) and the -S magnet are both fitted, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be mounted for end-position sensing.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACEJ16X100 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X100-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X100-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×100 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
On a small CNC jig, the 40 mm window lets a technician trim the 100 mm extend stroke between 60 and 100 mm to match part heights, with the 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa holding light workpieces.
Ejecting finished parts from a packaging nest, the fitted -S magnet drives CMSE / DMSE switches so the PLC confirms the rod has reached the adjusted end position before the next cycle.
Lifting about 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin, the male-threaded 8 mm rod picks small components from a test rig within the 60-100 mm adjusted stroke range.
At 100.5 N push (75.4 N pull) at 0.5 MPa, this 16 mm bore suits light clamping and positioning; step down to the 12 mm bore (56.5 N push) for tighter spaces or up to the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push) when the load needs more margin. The 100 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so it is made to order. The 40 mm window means the machine can be tuned anywhere between 60 mm and 100 mm of extend travel. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. For new builds, order the ACEJ16X100 instead - this ACPJ is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 140.7 N and pull to 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, air filtered to 40 um, speed 30-500 mm/s and -20 to +70 C. The 100 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16.
The -40 code is a 40 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site anywhere between 60 mm and 100 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts on air loss; the fixed TPU bumpers at both ends only decelerate at the ends. This ACPJ is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X100 (ISO 21287), same bore, stroke and force class; confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
