AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X110-10S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X110-10S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 110mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X110-10S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder trims its own extend stroke on site: the -10 stop screw shortens the ordered 110 mm stroke by up to 10 mm, giving a usable 100-110 mm range. It delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 110 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard limit for the 16 mm bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note that this model is discontinued - the current-production successor is the ACEJ16X110, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into cramped pick-and-place gantries and test fixtures. Because the -S magnet is fitted on this unit, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped directly to the hard-anodized aluminium body. In practice, plan for about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift roughly 5 kg vertically once a 2:1 margin is applied. The fixed TPU bumper at each end only decelerates the piston - it never locks a load, so the rod still drifts if air is lost.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 100-110 mm adjustable extend stroke clamps a small valve housing under about 60 N of working force at 0.5 MPa, and the fitted magnet signals clamp-complete to the tester via a DMSE switch.
The short body fits inside a tight SMT magazine where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder would overhang the frame, ejecting populated trays at 30-500 mm/s.
At 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa the rod folds cardboard flaps on a semi-auto sealing line, with the 10 mm stop window dialled in to match carton height.
Size it against neighbours: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to 20 mm buys 157.1 N - pick 16 mm when 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa covers the job with margin. The M4x0.7 female rod thread takes standard I/Y knuckles, and FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the same face. If you need position feedback, this -S version already carries the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, order the ACEJ16X110 instead, since this ACPJ is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull; the theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -10 code gives a 10 mm adjustment window, so the external stop screw trims the 110 mm extend stroke down to 100 mm. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the 110 mm stroke is a made-to-order length since the 16 mm bore normally tops out at 75 mm standard.
This ACPJ is no longer in production; the drop-in successor is the ACEJ16X110 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. For sensing, this unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount straight onto the body; the fixed TPU bumpers at each end only soften the stroke ends and hold no load.
