This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X110-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X110-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X110-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 110mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X110-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X110-40 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 110 mm stroke by up to 40 mm on site, giving a usable range of 70-110 mm. This 16 mm bore unit delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 110 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard limit for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X110, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The short ISO 21287 body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into cramped jigs and guard rails. A rule of thumb for real work: plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg of force) at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating, and expect it to lift about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The fixed TPU bumper at both ends only decelerates the piston; it never locks or holds a load, so on air loss the rod can drift. Rod end is a female M4x0.7 thread and the port is M5x0.8.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X110-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X110-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×110 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 70-110 mm trim range lets a technician dial the eject stroke to clear a shallow cavity without re-machining the fixture, using about 60 N of usable push force at 0.5 MPa.
Mounted on an LB foot under a low guard, the short body fits where a full-length cylinder cannot, and the 40 mm window absorbs carton-width changes without swapping the cylinder.
The female M4x0.7 rod thread takes a knuckle for light pressing of vials or slides, and the 5 kg vertical-lift margin suits small cap or lid placement heads.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to bore 20 for 157.1 N; if the load is light, bore 12 gives 56.5 N at lower air use. Remember the stop screw is an end stop only, not a mid-stroke lock. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt straight to the ISO 21287 face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches - this code has no S, so no magnet is fitted. For new projects, order the ACEJ16X110 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull; theoretical maximum 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 40 mm adjustment window (usable stroke 70-110 mm), M5x0.8 port, female M4x0.7 rod thread, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The 110 mm stroke is made to order since bore 16 tops out at 75 mm standard.
Only with the optional -S magnet code, which allows CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches; this ACPJ16X110-40 has no S in its code, so no magnet is fitted and no sensor can be mounted. The model itself is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X110 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping.
