This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-100S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-100S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-100S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-100S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ16X120-100S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -100 code gives a 100 mm stop-screw window, so the 120 mm stroke can be trimmed anywhere down to 20 mm on site. It is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for a 16 mm bore, so it is made to order.
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N (140.7 N / 105.6 N at 0.7 MPa). A practical rule of thumb is to size on about 60% of the push force, roughly 60 N of real work, which corresponds to lifting about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches for end-of-stroke sensing.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-100S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-100S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -100 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims the extend stroke from 120 mm down to the exact clamp point on machining fixtures, with about 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa holding light workpieces.
The 100 mm adjustment window lets a stop screw set the exact push-off travel for kicking small cartons off a conveyor, with the -S magnet signalling end of stroke.
A compact 16 mm bore delivering 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa suits benchtop sample pressing and dispensing heads where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit.
For a 120 mm stroke in tight space, compare the 12 mm bore (56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) if the load is light, or step up to the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push) for heavier tooling. This unit already carries the -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be added without a special order; the female M4x0.7 rod thread takes standard I/Y knuckles. Remember the stop screw only trims the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and the piston drifts if air is lost. Order the ACEJ16X120 as the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
Push is 100.5 N and pull 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa; push rises to 140.7 N and pull to 105.6 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, rod 8 mm with female M4x0.7 thread. The 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order size above the 75 mm standard maximum for this bore.
A stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 100 mm within the ordered window, giving a usable range of 20-120 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 120 mm and it does not hold a load if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
