This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-100SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-100SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-100SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-100SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder trims its extend stroke on site: the -100 stop screw shortens the 120 mm stroke by up to 100 mm, giving a usable 20-120 mm range. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard limit for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build. Note: the ACPJ family is discontinued; ACEJ16X120 is the current-production successor in the same force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding. Because about 60 N of the push force is realistic working output at 0.5 MPa, that equals lifting roughly 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The -S code on this model carries the magnet, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be fitted, and the male rod thread (B) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles on the ISO 21287 face.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-100SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-100SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -100 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
On a small machining fixture, the stop screw set to 60 mm keeps the 8 mm rod from over-traveling into a machined pocket while still delivering 100.5 N of clamp force at 0.5 MPa.
With the -S magnet this cylinder drives CMSE / DMSE switches, so a packaging machine PLC confirms the eject stroke reached its trimmed end before the next carton indexes.
Inside a cramped gantry where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit, the short body lifts about 6 kg parts vertically, keeping a 2:1 margin on the 100.5 N push.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to bore 20 for 157.1 N; if the load is light, bore 12 delivers 56.5 N in a smaller envelope. Remember the stop screw is an end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it never holds a load mid-stroke. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the standard face. This model is discontinued; order ACEJ16X120 as the drop-in and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -100 code is a 100 mm adjustment window: the stop screw shortens the 120 mm extend stroke by up to 100 mm, so the working range is 20-120 mm. Speed is 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
Bore 16 tops out at 75 mm as a standard stroke, so this 120 mm version is made to order. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X120, an ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
