This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-10SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-10SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-10SB

The ACPJ16X120-10SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke, built on the DIN-standard ACP short body in hard-anodized aluminium with an S45C hard-chrome 8 mm rod. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so a 120 mm stroke still fits shallow guards and slide fixtures. The -S code on this model carries the optional magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signals.

The -10 code gives a 10 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the 120 mm extend stroke down to 110 mm on site, so one cylinder covers several jig positions without re-plumbing. Note the stop is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding brake. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Where the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-10SB Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Compact ejection on assembly fixtures

The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa ejects small plastic housings or stamped clips from nest tooling, and the 10 mm trim lets one cylinder serve several nest depths.

vertical_align_bottom

Short-stroke press in electronics assembly

About 60 N of usable force seats connectors and ribbon cables in PCB jigs, with the short body fitting inside a guarded bench-top press frame.

sensors

Position-signalled slide on a packaging line

With the -S magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches, the 110-120 mm trimmed extend stroke confirms carton pusher position at up to 500 mm/s.

Replacing the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-10SB with the ACEJ16X120-10SB

Size by force first: bore 12 gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa and bore 20 gives 157.1 N, so the 16 mm bore at 100.5 N sits between them - step up to 20 mm if your part weight approaches the 6 kg vertical-lift guideline. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 16, so it is made to order. This unit has the male rod thread (B) and PT ports; FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the same face. If you need position feedback, keep the -S magnet code and pair it with CMSE / DMSE switches. For new builds, order the ACEJ16X120 instead - it is the current ISO 21287 successor.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ACEJ16X120-10SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-10SB FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 140.7 N and pull 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. For real work, plan on about 60 N of push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um.

The -10 code adds an external stop screw that shortens the extend stroke by up to 10 mm, giving a usable range of 110-120 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered 120 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock - the piston still drifts on air loss. A fixed TPU bumper pads both ends. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X120 (same bore, stroke and force class) - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
