This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X120-20B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 100-120 mm on site. This bore 16 unit delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles on the ISO 21287 face. Note: the 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287 body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and gantries. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 6 kg vertically - halve that for a 2:1 margin and match real part weights against it. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clamps small aluminium or plastic workpieces, and the 20 mm trim lets machinists dial the clamp point without shimming.
With a 100-120 mm usable extend range and 30-500 mm/s speed, the rod kicks misfed blister packs off a conveyor track reliably.
About 6 kg of vertical push equivalent suits capping or pressing microplate lids inside compact analyzer frames where a full-length body will not fit.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to bore 20 for 157.1 N; if the load is light, bore 12 gives 56.5 N at lower air use. The 20 mm adjustment window suits machines where the final extend position is tuned during commissioning - remember the stop only shortens the stroke and drifts on air loss, so it is not a load lock. Order the -S code if you later need CMSE / DMSE switches; this unit has no magnet. For new designs, specify the ACEJ16X120 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, rod 8 mm with male thread, and a 20 mm extend-stroke adjustment window. The 120 mm stroke is made to order since the bore 16 standard maximum is 75 mm.
The short ISO 21287 body cuts mounting length by roughly half versus an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with FA/FB flange and LB foot options plus I/Y rod knuckles on the standard face. A fixed TPU bumper decelerates the rod at each end only - it never holds a load. This ACPJ model is discontinued; the drop-in successor is ACEJ16X120 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows a DIN-standard footprint.
