This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-30B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-30B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-30B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-30B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X120-30B is a double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder in the DIN-standard ACPJ family, now discontinued in favour of the ISO 21287 ACEJ16X120. Its 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -30 code sets a 30 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the 120 mm extend stroke down to as little as 90 mm, so one cylinder covers a 90-120 mm working range on site. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guard-mounted tooling. A rule of thumb for planning: about 60 N of real work is available at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and the male rod thread (B code) bolts to standard knuckles. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-30B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-30B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 30 mm trim window lets a machinist set the exact clamp position between 90 and 120 mm without swapping cylinders when the fixture plate changes.
About 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa seats vials and small test fixtures gently, and the male rod thread accepts a standard I-type knuckle.
With 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore nudges lightweight cartons off a conveyor lane inside a guard where a full-length body would not fit.
Size against neighbours: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N, so pick 16 mm when 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa covers the job with margin. Note that the stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, and on air loss the rod still drifts, so add a separate valve or clamp where holding matters. This unit has no magnet (no S code), so CMSE or DMSE switches cannot be fitted; order the -S variant if sensing is needed. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt straight to the mounting face. Before ordering, confirm the ISO 21287 dimensions of the current ACEJ16X120 replacement, since this DIN-standard model is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 140.7 N and pull 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -30 code gives a 30 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke can be trimmed from 120 mm down to 90 mm with the external stop screw. The 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order length because the bore 16 standard maximum is 75 mm.
The short-body build saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with an M5x0.8 port and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. This ACPJ model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X120 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
