This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-30S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-30S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-30S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-30S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, this discontinued AirTAC ACPJ16X120-30S pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa) from a 16 mm bore. The -30 code gives a 30 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 120 mm extend stroke down on site, so the working range is 90-120 mm. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
Because the -S code was ordered, the magnet is fitted and CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the hard-anodized aluminium body. The rod is 8 mm with a female M4x0.5-class thread per the datasheet (M4x0.7), air ports are M5x0.8, and fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends. For sizing, plan on roughly 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa - about 6 kg lifted vertically - rather than the full rating. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-30S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-30S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
On a CNC jig the 30 mm window lets a technician trim the 120 mm extend stroke to 90-120 mm with a stop screw, clamping 60 N-class parts without reordering a new cylinder.
With the fitted -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm rod position on a small electronics-assembly ejector running 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
A benchtop pin-press station uses the 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa (about 10 kgf vertical equivalent, derated to roughly 6 kg) inside a guard too short for an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.
At 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull (0.5 MPa) this bore 16 sits between the 12 mm bore (56.5 N push) and the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push), so step up to 20 mm if your part weight approaches the 6 kg vertical-lift rule of thumb. The stop screw shortens the extend stroke only within the 30 mm window - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate valve or lock for load holding. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ16X120 as the current replacement and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
Push is 100.5 N and pull 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 140.7 N and pull to 105.6 N, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 16 mm bore uses M5x0.8 ports, an 8 mm rod with female M4x0.7 thread, 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) operating pressure, 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, -20 to +70 C, and 30-500 mm/s speed. The 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order size above the 75 mm standard maximum for this bore.
The -30 code sets a 30 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 120 mm extend stroke on site to any length from 90 to 120 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a load-holding brake, and fixed TPU bumpers decelerate at both ends. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X120 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
