This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-30 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-30 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-30 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-30 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ16X120-30 uses a 16 mm bore and a 120 mm stroke that a stop screw trims by up to 30 mm on site, giving a usable range of 90-120 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build. This model is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The hard-anodized aluminium body is an ISO 21287 short build that saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which helps in tight jigs and guarding. Plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating. The rod ends in a female M4x0.7 thread, ports are M5x0.8, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). No magnet is fitted; order the -S code if you need CMSE / DMSE switch sensing.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-30 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-30 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trimming the stroke between 90 and 120 mm lets one cylinder clamp parts of different heights on a small electronics assembly press, with 100.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa.
The short ISO 21287 body fits where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder is too long, ejecting machined bushings from a lathe jig within the 90-120 mm window.
A packaging line uses the adjustable stop to knock small cartons off a conveyor at exactly the right travel, running at 30-500 mm/s on filtered air.
Size against neighbours: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N - pick up if 100.5 N is marginal for your load. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke; it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can drift if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Since this unit is discontinued, order the ACEJ16X120 as the current-production equivalent.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N. At 0.7 MPa the figures are 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull. The theoretical maximum at 1.0 MPa is 20.5 kgf. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure.
The -30 code gives a 30 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 120 mm extend stroke to any length down to 90 mm, but it cannot lengthen the stroke and it does not hold a load if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the ACEJ16X120 is the current ISO 21287 drop-in - verify its mounting dimensions before swapping.
