This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-40B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-40B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-40B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-40B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ16X120-40B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 80-120 mm. The 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Its hard-anodized aluminium body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into narrow fixtures and sliding guards. Note the 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build.
This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACPJ follows the DIN-standard footprint. The B code gives a male rod thread on the 8 mm rod, and the fixed TPU bumpers at both ends simply decelerate the piston - they never lock or hold a load if air is lost. Plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg) of real working force at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 100.5 N rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-40B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-40B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims clamping position between 80 and 120 mm on a rotary indexing table, with 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa enough for light part clamping.
The 8 mm male-thread rod drives an ejector pin on an injection-molding secondary station, pushing finished clips off the tool at up to 500 mm/s.
Swings a lightweight diverter gate on a packaging line, where the short body fits beside the belt frame and the 40 mm window sets the gate travel.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is more than your jig needs, the ACPJ12 delivers 56.5 N at the same pressure; if you need more, step up to the ACPJ20 for 157.1 N. The 40 mm adjustment window suits stations where the final position is tuned on site, but remember the stop is not a mid-stroke lock - the rod drifts on air loss. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches (this code has no magnet). Order the ACEJ16X120 as the current drop-in and verify ISO 21287 dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code gives a 40 mm adjustment window, so the 120 mm extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere in an 80-120 mm range. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, rod 8 mm with male thread.
The ACPJ family is discontinued; order the ACEJ16X120 as the current-production replacement in the same bore, stroke and force class, and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. The short hard-anodized aluminium body needs about 50% less mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and fixed TPU bumpers decelerate the piston at both ends. Sensors need the optional -S magnet code with CMSE / DMSE switches - this model has no magnet fitted.
