AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X120-40 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke by up to 40 mm on site, giving a usable range of 80-120 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N, and at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N. The 120 mm stroke is longer than the 75 mm standard maximum for a 16 mm bore, so this unit is made to order. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Its short ISO 21287 body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in slim gantries and guarded stations. With the 100.5 N push figure, plan for roughly 60 N (about 6 kg) of real work at 0.5 MPa, and expect around 10 kg of vertical lift capability at full push force - halve that to about 5 kg for a 2:1 margin. The fixed TPU bumper at both ends only decelerates the piston; it never locks or holds a load, so on air loss the rod can drift. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches - this code has no S, so no magnet is fitted.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 80-120 mm adjustable range lets a fixture builder trim the eject stroke of connectors or PCBs in a tight cell, with 100.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa enough for light plastic parts.
With roughly 5 kg of vertical lift at a 2:1 margin, the 16 mm bore raises small machined blanks from a chute inside a guard where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit.
Order the -S version to add CMSE / DMSE switches and confirm the trimmed extend position on a leak-test fixture; this code without S has no magnet, so no sensor can be mounted.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N; if you need less force and a shorter body, the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N. Remember the adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke, not a mid-stroke lock - do not use it to hold a load against air loss. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot hardware to your fixture, and order the -S code if you need CMSE / DMSE position switches. For new designs, specify the ACEJ16X120 instead, since this ACPJ model is discontinued.
