This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-50B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-50B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-50B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-50B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This discontinued AirTAC model is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -50 stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke down to as little as 70 mm on site, so one unit covers a 70-120 mm working range. The 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N / 105.6 N at 0.7 MPa, 20.5 kgf theoretical maximum at 1.0 MPa). Its hard-anodized aluminium body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it fits shallow jigs and guard rails that full-length bodies cannot.
In practice, plan for roughly 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the push rating), which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for small fixture clamps or light part transfer. The rod end is male thread (the B code), the port is M5x0.8, and fixed TPU bumpers decelerate at both ends. Note that the 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build. Since this model is discontinued, order the current ACEJ16X120 replacement and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-50B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-50B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 70-120 mm adjustable range lets a commissioning engineer trim the extend stroke of a small push-off actuator without swapping cylinders when the product size changes.
About 60 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa clamps small aluminium brackets in a fixture whose depth cannot accept a full-length body.
With a 2:1 margin the bore lifts about 5 kg vertically, matching small sensor housings or connector blocks raised into a gauge head.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is more than your load needs, the 12 mm bore (56.5 N push) saves space; if you need more force, step up to the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push). The 50 mm window suits jobs where the exact stroke is tuned during commissioning, but remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and the piston still drifts if air is lost. Mounting is FA/FB flange or LB foot with I/Y rod knuckles. This unit has no magnet because the -S code was not ordered; if you need CMSE / DMSE switches, the ACEJ16X120 replacement can be ordered with the optional -S magnet.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 stop screw shortens the 120 mm extend stroke by up to 50 mm, giving a usable 70-120 mm range. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, male rod thread, fixed TPU bumpers both ends. The 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order build because the bore 16 standard maximum is 75 mm.
Order the ACEJ16X120, the current-production ISO 21287 replacement: swap the P for an E and you get the same bore, stroke and force class in a matching short body. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your existing holes, since the ACPJ was built to a DIN-standard compact footprint. If you need position sensing, order the ACEJ with the optional -S magnet so CMSE / DMSE switches can be fitted.
