This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-50S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-50S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-50S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-50S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ16X120-50S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke by up to 50 mm, giving a usable range of 70-120 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so this unit is made to order. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Its short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in tight jigs, guards and gantries. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the hard-anodized aluminium body. For sizing, plan on about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the push rating), which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends and the rod carries a female M4x0.7 thread.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-50S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-50S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 70-120 mm adjustable range lets one fixture handle several bracket lengths, with 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa enough for light aluminum or plastic parts.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE / DMSE switches confirm extend and retract on a small electronics-assembly ejector running at 30-500 mm/s.
A 120 mm made-to-order stroke pushes cartons or trays sideways off a conveyor, where the short body fits under low guarding that a full-length cylinder cannot.
Size the bore by load: the 12 mm bore gives only 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N, so 16 mm at 100.5 N sits in the middle for light clamping and indexing. The 50 mm window suits stations where one cylinder serves several part lengths; note the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and drifts on air loss, so it is not a load-holding lock. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ16X120 as the current drop-in and verify ISO 21287 dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
Push is 100.5 N and pull 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 140.7 N and pull to 105.6 N, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, female M4x0.7 rod thread, fixed TPU bumpers both ends. The 120 mm stroke is non-standard for bore 16 (75 mm max standard) and made to order.
The -50 code is a 50 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere between 70 and 120 mm, but it never lengthens the stroke past 120 mm and it does not hold a load if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X120 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACPJ follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
