This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X120-50 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X120-50 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X120-50 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X120-50 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ16X120-50 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke by up to 50 mm on site, giving a usable range of 70-120 mm. The 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa), with a fixed TPU bumper at each end and speeds of 30-500 mm/s. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard limit for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in slim fixtures such as a benchtop soldering press or a compact pick station. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, enough to lift roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this unit has no magnet (the optional -S code adds one for CMSE / DMSE switches). The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X120-50 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X120-50 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Kicks finished nylon bushings off a machining fixture where the 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clears a 0.5 kg part and the 70-120 mm trim dials in the ejection point.
Clamps vials or test coupons on an automated sampling deck; the compact body fits under a low guard and the adjustable stop sets repeatable clamping depth.
Folds minor flaps on a cosmetic-box line at up to 500 mm/s, with the 50 mm window absorbing carton size changes without re-plumbing.
Size against neighbours: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N - choose up if your part weight or friction load exceeds about 60 N. This model suits jobs needing a trimmed extend stroke between 70 and 120 mm; remember the stop screw is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can drift if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE sensing. For new designs, order the ACEJ16X120 instead - same bore, stroke and force class.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and the air must be filtered to 40 um. The 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 75 mm standard for this bore.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 50 mm, so the effective range is 70-120 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 120 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop only - it does not hold a load if air is lost. This version has no magnet, so no switch can be mounted; order the -S variant to enable CMSE / DMSE switches. The model is discontinued, with the ACEJ16X120 as the current replacement.
