This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X125-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X125-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X125-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 125mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X125-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ16X125-40SB is a DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 16 mm bore and a made-to-order 125 mm stroke that a stop screw trims by up to 40 mm, giving a usable extend range of 85-125 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull, with a theoretical ceiling of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The male rod thread (B code) and PT ports suit direct screw-on tooling.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into cramped fixtures and guarding. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped on for end-of-stroke sensing. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts around 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X125, and you should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X125-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X125-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick finished caps or connectors off a mold nest, and the 85-125 mm adjustable range lets one cylinder serve several mold heights.
At 30-500 mm/s the rod keeps pace with carton transfer conveyors, and the fitted magnet with CMSE / DMSE switches confirms each push without extra proximity sensors.
About 6 kg of practical working force at 0.5 MPa suits delicate clamping of vials or test coupons, while the short body fits inside benchtop fixture frames.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your jig, step up to the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push); if you need less force, the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N. The 125 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 16, so it is a non-standard, made-to-order build - confirm lead time. The 40 mm window trims the extend stroke only; it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order ACEJ16X125 as the current drop-in.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with proof pressure of 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the rod is 8 mm with a male thread. The 125 mm stroke is made to order because the bore 16 standard maximum is 75 mm.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 40 mm window, so the effective range is 85-125 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 125 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop only - it does not hold a load if air pressure drops. Fixed TPU bumpers at both ends absorb end-of-travel impact. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X125 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
