This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X125-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X125-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X125-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 125mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X125-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This AirTAC ACPJ16X125-40 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 125 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 85-125 mm on site. The 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa. Note that the 125 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. The model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X125 in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and gantries where a full-length body will not fit. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating, which equates to lifting about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt straight to the standard face, and the fixed TPU bumpers at both ends simply decelerate the piston - they never lock or hold a load. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping to the ACEJ16X125.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X125-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X125-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40 mm trim window lets one 16 mm cylinder serve jig nests of varying part heights, cutting the 125 mm extend stroke down to 85 mm without changing hardware.
With 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, this bore ejects pressed pins, bushings and light clips from nests where a 12 mm bore (56.5 N) would stall.
Ordered with the optional -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm end positions inside the short body that fits where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder cannot.
Size this bore by force: at 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push, while the smaller 12 mm bore manages 56.5 N and the larger 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N. If your fixture needs position feedback, remember this code has no magnet - order the -S variant to enable CMSE / DMSE switches. The 40 mm window suits stations where one cylinder serves parts of slightly different heights; the stop shortens the extend stroke only, it does not lengthen it past 125 mm, and on air loss the piston still drifts. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X125 instead, confirming ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 140.7 N and pull to 105.6 N. Theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8 with an M4x0.7 female rod thread.
The -40 code sets a 40 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere between 85 and 125 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X125 (swap P for E) in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
