This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X125-50S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X125-50S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X125-50S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 125mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X125-50S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -50 stop screw trims the 125 mm stroke by up to 50 mm on site, giving a usable 75-125 mm range. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N. The 125 mm stroke is longer than the 75 mm standard maximum for a 16 mm bore, so this unit is made to order. Note that ACPJ is discontinued - the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X125 in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. The fitted -S magnet lets you add CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches for end-of-stroke sensing. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 60 N (about 6 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 100.5 N rating. The stop screw sets the extend position only - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can still drift if air is lost.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X125-50S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X125-50S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×125 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 75-125 mm trim range lets one cylinder serve several fixture depths, with 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clamping light aluminium parts during drilling.
At 30-500 mm/s the rod ejects cartons or blisters from a conveyor lane; the fitted magnet drives a CMSE switch to confirm each extend stroke.
About 6 kg of usable vertical force at 0.5 MPa presses stoppers or lids onto small vials, and the compact body fits inside a benchtop guard.
Size both ways before ordering: a 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while a 20 mm bore gives 157.1 N - this 16 mm model's 100.5 N sits between them. If your load needs the rod held under power mid-travel, remember the adjuster is an end stop only. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the -S magnet is already fitted here for CMSE / DMSE switches. Since ACPJ is discontinued, order ACEJ16X125 as the drop-in successor and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 stop screw shortens the 125 mm extend stroke by up to 50 mm, so the working range is 75-125 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the 125 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 75 mm standard maximum for this bore.
An external stop screw on the head trims the extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 50 mm window - it shortens the stroke, never lengthens it past 125 mm. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston; it does not hold or brake a load, and on air loss the rod can drift. ACPJ is discontinued: the current drop-in is ACEJ16X125 (same bore, stroke and force class), so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. The -S magnet on this unit accepts CMSE / DMSE switches.
