This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X15-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X15-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X15-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 15mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X15-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This AirTAC cylinder is double acting with an adjustable extend stroke: air drives the rod out and pulls it back, and a stop screw trims the 15 mm stroke within the ordered 20 mm window, giving a usable range of 0-15 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Note that the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ16X15, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
For sizing, plan on roughly 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 60% of the push rating), which corresponds to lifting about 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The 8 mm S45C hard-chrome rod runs in a hard-anodized aluminium body with a fixed TPU bumper at each end, speed range 30-500 mm/s and 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) operating pressure. This unit has the male rod thread (B code) and no magnet; the optional -S code adds one for CMSE / DMSE switches.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X15-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X15-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×15 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clamps aluminium brackets or plastic housings on an assembly jig, with the 0-15 mm trimmed range matching shallow part pockets.
The short body fits inside a CNC fixture base to push finished 6 kg-class parts off a nest, where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder would be twice as long.
A top press holds small cartons during taping; the male rod thread (B) accepts a knuckle or custom pad, and the stop screw sets exact press height.
Compare bores by force at 0.5 MPa: the 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N, this 16 mm bore pushes 100.5 N, and the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N. If your clamp or eject needs more than about 100 N at 0.5 MPa, step up to 20 mm. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold a load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switch positioning. Since ACPJ16X15-20B is discontinued, order ACEJ16X15 as the current replacement and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 140.7 N and pull 105.6 N, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code is a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 15 mm extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 0-15 mm. It shortens the stroke only and never lengthens it past the ordered value. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s.
No - the ACPJ family is discontinued. The current-production replacement is ACEJ16X15, which swaps the P for an E and matches the same 16 mm bore, 15 mm stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 short-body format. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings are available, and the optional -S magnet (not fitted on this B-code unit) enables CMSE / DMSE switches.
