This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X15-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X15-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X15-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 15mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X15-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ16X15-20S pushes 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N at 0.7 MPa) from a 16 mm bore with a 15 mm stroke. The -20 code adds a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 0-15 mm. With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the body. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X15.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into cramped jigs, guarding and gantry tooling. A hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends handle 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) air at 30-500 mm/s. For sizing, treat about 60 N (0.6 x 100.5 N) as the practical working force, which lifts roughly 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X15-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X15-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×15 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 15 mm extend stroke trimmed by the stop screw ejects finished watch or connector parts from a small die, with 100.5 N at 0.5 MPa enough for light stampings.
Because the -S magnet is fitted, a CMSE switch confirms the rod is fully retracted before a PCB test fixture releases the board.
On a packaging line, the compact body tucks under a low guard and holds caps during labeling, lifting about 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.
Size both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is more than the job needs, the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N; if the load needs more, step up to the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N. The 15 mm stroke sits well inside the 75 mm max standard stroke for bore 16, so no made-to-order stroke is required. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and on air loss the piston can still drift. Choose FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting, and order CMSE/DMSE switches only because this unit carries the -S magnet. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X15 and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 16 mm bore uses an M5x0.8 port, the rod is 8 mm with a female M4x0.7 thread, speed runs 30-500 mm/s, and operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure. The -20 window lets a stop screw trim the 15 mm extend stroke.
The short-body build saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits tight fixtures, and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. Fixed TPU bumpers decelerate the piston at both ends. This model is discontinued: order ACEJ16X15 (same bore, stroke and force class) and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap.
