This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X150-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X150-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X150-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 150mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X150-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, built on the DIN-standard ACPJ short body: hard-anodized aluminium covers threaded onto the body, an S45C hard-chrome piston rod and a fixed TPU bumper at each end. The 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa. The 150 mm stroke is longer than the 75 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note: the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X150, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere between 130 and 150 mm on site, so one cylinder serves several jig positions. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 3 kg vertically with a sensible margin. The short ISO 21287 body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and this unit has a male rod thread (B code) with PT ports. No magnet is fitted because the -S code was not ordered, so position switches cannot be mounted on this version.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X150-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X150-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×150 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 150 mm throw with a 20 mm trim window ejects finished parts from a small fixture; the roughly 60 N usable push at 0.5 MPa handles light plastic or thin aluminium components.
The 130-150 mm adjustable range lets one cylinder serve jig variants without re-plumbing; the male rod thread (B) accepts an I/Y knuckle for angled clamping pads.
About 3 kg of vertical working force at 0.5 MPa presses dowels or bearings into housings on an assembly bench, with the TPU bumpers decelerating each end of travel.
Size against neighbours: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm bore reaches 157.1 N - step up if your part weight or friction load exceeds the roughly 60 N usable figure of this 16 mm bore. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only; on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a mid-stroke lock. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face, and ordering the -S variant adds the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new projects, specify the ACEJ16X150 instead, since this ACPJ model is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm window, so the extend stroke can be trimmed from 150 mm down to 130 mm with the stop screw. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the 150 mm stroke is a made-to-order length since the bore 16 standard maximum is 75 mm.
Switches need the optional -S magnet, which this unit does not carry, so no CMSE / DMSE sensor can be mounted on this version - order an -S variant if sensing is required. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X150 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
