This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X150-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X150-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X150-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 150mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X150-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, the ACPJ16X150-40 uses a 40 mm stop-screw window so the effective stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 110 and 150 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa. The 150 mm stroke is longer than the 75 mm standard limit for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X150, same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in slim gantries and guarded cells. A practical sizing rule: keep real work to about 60 N (roughly 6 kgf) at 0.5 MPa, enough to lift about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, a female M4x0.7 rod thread and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends; the magnet is the optional -S code, so this unit has none and no CMSE / DMSE switch can be fitted.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X150-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X150-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×150 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 40 mm window lets a jig builder set the exact clamp position between 110 and 150 mm, using the 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa to seat small aluminium parts against a nest.
At 30-500 mm/s the rod can push lightweight cartons off a belt; the compact body fits the narrow frame space an ISO 15552 profile cylinder cannot.
The female M4x0.7 rod thread accepts small tooling for dosing or sample indexing, with the 6 kgf usable force matching light vials and trays.
Size between bores: the 12 mm ACPJ12 gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 20 mm ACPJ20 reaches 157.1 N, so the 16 mm at 100.5 N sits mid-range for light clamping and indexing. Remember the stop screw trims the extend stroke only and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the rod still drifts. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. Order the -S variant if position sensing via CMSE / DMSE switches is needed. For new designs specify ACEJ16X150 and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa: 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull. At 0.7 MPa: 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull. Theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um.
The -40 code gives a 40 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 150 mm extend stroke to as little as 110 mm; it cannot lengthen it. Fixed TPU bumpers decelerate at both ends. The ACPJ family is discontinued - order ACEJ16X150 as the drop-in successor and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
