This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X150-50 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X150-50 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X150-50 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 150mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X150-50 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke: air drives the rod out and pulls it back, and a stop screw on the body trims the extend stroke anywhere inside the ordered 50 mm window, giving a usable range of 100-150 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 150 mm stroke is longer than the 75 mm standard limit for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into cramped slide assemblies and fixture plates. In practice, plan on about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 3 kg vertically once you keep a 2:1 margin. Note the fixed TPU bumper at each end only softens the ends of travel - it never holds or brakes a load, and on air loss the piston drifts. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ16X150, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X150-50 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X150-50 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×150 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa seats aluminium brackets into a drilling jig, and the 50 mm window lets one cylinder serve pallets of two different part heights between 100 and 150 mm of travel.
A short body that is about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder fits beside a narrow conveyor frame, kicking light cartons sideways at 30-500 mm/s.
The female M4x0.7 rod thread picks up a small pressing plate to apply about 60 N of usable force to vial caps, with the stop screw dialling the stroke down for shallow trays.
Size against neighbours: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to 20 mm reaches 157.1 N - pick the 16 mm when you need roughly 100 N with an 8 mm rod. If the machine must hold position through a power cut, add an external locking unit, because the stop screw only sets the extend stroke and does not lock the piston. Order the -S version if you later want CMSE / DMSE switches; this code has no magnet. FA flange or LB foot mount on the standard face, and ACEJ16X150 is the current replacement to quote.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code gives a 50 mm adjustment window, so the stop screw trims the 150 mm extend stroke down to any length from 100 to 150 mm. The 150 mm stroke is a made-to-order length, since the standard maximum for a 16 mm bore is 75 mm.
It is a short-body compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body, an S45C hard-chrome rod, M5x0.8 ports and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends that only decelerates end of travel. This code has no magnet, so no switch can be read - order the -S variant to enable CMSE or DMSE switches. The model is discontinued; ACEJ16X150 is the current-production successor in the same bore, stroke and force class, so verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.
