This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X160-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X160-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-20B

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X160-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-20B

This is a double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder with a 16 mm bore and a made-to-order 160 mm stroke. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 140-160 mm. It pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N at 0.5 MPa, rising to 140.7 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. A practical rule of thumb: plan for about 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into narrow jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and the male rod thread (B code) suits knuckle-style tooling. Note this model has no magnet fitted; the optional -S code adds one for CMSE / DMSE switches. The ACPJ family is discontinued, and the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X160 - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X160-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Where the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-20B Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Small-parts ejection in plastic molding

The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick lightweight molded clips off a core pin, and the 20 mm window lets the operator fine-trim the 160 mm stroke to clear the tool without re-machining.

conveyor_belt

Packaging line product diverters

At 30-500 mm/s the rod can push snack cartons or blister packs off a narrow conveyor lane, and the short body fits under low guarding where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder would not.

science

Lab sample press fixture

With about 60 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa, the cylinder seats vial caps or test coupons in a benchtop fixture; the male rod thread mounts a knuckle for aligned straight-line pressing.

Replacing the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-20B with the ACEJ16X160-20B

Size the bore both ways: if 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is more than your load needs, the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N; if you need headroom, the 20 mm bore gives 157.1 N. The 160 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 16, so it is made to order - confirm lead time. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only, not a mid-stroke lock: on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a separate valve or clamp if you must hold a load. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the male rod thread takes I/Y knuckles directly. For position sensing, order the -S variant with CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, specify the ACEJ16X160 instead.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ACEJ16X160-20B
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-20B FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N; the theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code sets a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site, giving a usable range of 140-160 mm. It cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered 160 mm, and the stop is not a load-holding brake - on air loss the piston drifts. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) at 30-500 mm/s.

No. The maximum standard stroke for a 16 mm bore is 75 mm, so 160 mm is a non-standard, made-to-order stroke. The ACPJ family itself is also discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X160, the same bore, stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 series. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions, because the ACPJ was built to a DIN-standard footprint. Also note this unit has no magnet; the optional -S code is required for CMSE / DMSE switch mounting.
