This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X160-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X160-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X160-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ16X160-20SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 160 mm stroke by up to 20 mm on site, giving a usable range of 140-160 mm. Air drives the rod in both directions, a fixed TPU bumper sits at each end, and the male-threaded 8 mm rod (the B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speeds of 30-500 mm/s, and carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke signalling.
At 0.5 MPa the bore pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N, with a theoretical 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan on roughly 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which is about 6 kg of horizontal load or a vertical lift of around 5 kg with a 2:1 margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding. Note the 160 mm stroke exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so it is a made-to-order build. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X160 - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X160-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X160-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa ejects finished clips or caps from shallow cavities, while the 20 mm trim window lets the operator dial the ejector travel between 140 and 160 mm without changing the cylinder.
The male-threaded 8 mm rod drives a pop-up stop that halts 250 ml bottles at a filling station; the fitted -S magnet with a DMSE switch confirms the stop is fully down before the next cycle starts.
About 60 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa seats caps onto 15 ml centrifuge tubes gently enough for the vials, and the short body fits inside the compact enclosure where a full-length cylinder would not.
Size both ways: bore 12 gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa for lighter clamping, while bore 20 delivers 157.1 N if your fixture needs more force at the same footprint. This 16 mm bore sits between them with 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, and on air loss the rod still drifts, so add a separate holding valve if the load must stay put. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order ACEJ16X160 as the current drop-in and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 140.7 N and pull 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 160 mm stroke can be shortened to as little as 140 mm by the stop screw. Because 160 mm exceeds the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, this is a made-to-order stroke. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s and pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ16X160, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since ACP is DIN-standard. For sensing, this unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE reed or DMSE solid-state switches mount directly on the body to signal end positions.
