This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X160-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X160-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X160-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -20 code gives a 20 mm stop-screw window, so the 160 mm stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 140 and 160 mm on site. It is discontinued, and the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class. At 0.5 MPa the bore 16 delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull, rising to 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot fit. Note the 160 mm stroke is beyond the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16, so this unit is made to order. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X160-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X160-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suits light swaging or marking on small aluminium brackets, with the 20 mm window letting you dial the 160 mm stroke down to the part height.
A 140-160 mm extend range clears a narrow conveyor lane; the fixed TPU bumper decelerates the rod at both ends for repeatable nudging of cartons.
With about 5 kg of vertical lift capacity at a 2:1 margin, the bore 16 raises small sample trays in compact test rigs where a full-length body will not fit.
Size against the force table: bore 12 gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while bore 20 reaches 157.1 N, so the 16 mm bore sits mid-range for light clamping and indexing. If you need the rod to hold position against a load, remember the stop screw only limits the extend stroke - it is not a brake, and the piston drifts if air is lost. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts to your fixture, and order the -S code if CMSE / DMSE sensing is required. For new projects, specify the ACEJ16X160 instead and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 140.7 N and pulls 105.6 N. The theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8. The 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 75 mm standard maximum for bore 16.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable 140-160 mm range; it cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered 160 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop only - it never holds or brakes a load. Position sensing requires the optional -S magnet code, which allows CMSE / DMSE switches; without -S there is no magnet. This model is discontinued, so confirm the ISO 21287 dimensions of the ACEJ16X160 replacement before ordering.
