This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X160-30B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X160-30B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-30B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X160-30B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder trims its own extend stroke on site: the -30 stop screw shortens the 160 mm stroke by up to 30 mm, giving a usable 130-160 mm range without changing hardware. The 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N / 105.6 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for small clamps, gates and ejector tools. Note the 160 mm stroke is beyond the 75 mm standard limit for this bore, so it is made to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding where a full-length body will not reach. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the B code gives a male rod thread with PT ports (M5x0.8). This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ16X160, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X160-30B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X160-30B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 60 N usable push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick stamped terminals or plastic caps off a nest, and the 130-160 mm adjustable range lets a technician dial the ejector travel to the part without shimming.
With about 5 kg of vertical lift capability and a 160 mm reach, the cylinder opens and closes lightweight product gates at up to 500 mm/s, and the male rod thread (B code) suits clevis-style gate links.
The short body fits inside tight instrument frames where an ISO 15552 profile cylinder cannot, raising sample trays of roughly 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin between 130 and 160 mm of stroke.
Size against neighbours: bore 12 gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa if the load is lighter, while bore 20 reaches 157.1 N if you need more force in the same short envelope. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, and on air loss the rod still drifts, so add a separate holding valve if the load must stay put. No magnet is fitted on this version; order the -S code if you later want CMSE / DMSE switch positioning. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting bolts to the ISO 21287 face. For new projects, specify the ACEJ16X160 instead, matching bore, stroke and force class.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 30 mm adjustment window on the 160 mm extend stroke, running 30-500 mm/s at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), air filtered to 40 um, -20 to +70 C. Port is M5x0.8 (PT), rod 8 mm with male thread. The 160 mm stroke is non-standard and made to order.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 30 mm, so the rod can be set anywhere in a 130-160 mm window; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 160 mm. The stop is a mechanical end position only - it never holds or brakes a load, and the piston drifts if air is lost. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X160 (swap the P for an E), a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
