This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X160-30 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X160-30 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X160-30 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X160-30 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ16X160-30 gives a 16 mm bore with a 160 mm stroke that a stop screw trims by up to 30 mm on site, so the extend stroke can be set anywhere in a 130-160 mm window. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 140.7 N and 105.6 N. The 160 mm stroke is beyond the 75 mm standard limit for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X160, same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in a 160 mm-stroke gantry where every millimetre of envelope counts. Plan on about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa (0.6 of the rating), which vertically lifts about 5 kg with a 2:1 margin - enough for small plastic housings or aluminium fixtures. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. No magnet is fitted on this version; the optional -S code adds one for CMSE / DMSE switches.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X160-30 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 101 N | 75 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 141 N | 106 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 21 kgf | |
The ACEJ16X160-30 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 16 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 60 N usable push at 0.5 MPa clears finished nylon or ABS caps from shallow cavities, while the 130-160 mm adjustable window lets the setter dial the eject reach without changing cylinders.
With about 5 kg vertical-lift equivalent, this bore side-shifts small folded cartons or blister packs off a conveyor at 30-500 mm/s, and the short body tucks under low guard rails.
The 140.7 N push at 0.7 MPa seats microplate lids and test fixtures gently; the trimmed extend stroke prevents over-clamping delicate sample trays.
Size against neighbours: the 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa, the 20 mm bore 157.1 N - pick 16 mm when 100.5 N covers the job with headroom. Remember the stop screw only trims the extend stroke; it is not a mid-stroke lock, so on air loss the piston still drifts and an external brake is needed for holding. Choose the B code for a male rod thread, or leave it blank for the female M4x0.7 as supplied here. If position sensing is needed later, order the -S magnet variant. For new projects, specify the ACEJ16X160 instead and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 140.7 N and pull 105.6 N; theoretical maximum is 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, rod 8 mm with female M4x0.7 thread. The 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 75 mm standard maximum for this bore.
The -30 code means a stop screw shortens the 160 mm extend stroke by up to 30 mm, giving a usable 130-160 mm range; it cannot lengthen the stroke and it does not hold a load on air loss. This model is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ACEJ16X160 (P changed to E), same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACPJ is DIN-standard. The optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches; this version has none.
