This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X20-10S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ16X20-10S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X20-10S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 20mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X20-10S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This AirTAC ACPJ16X20-10S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -10 stop screw trims the 20 mm stroke down to 10 mm on site, so one unit covers a 10-20 mm working range. The 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N / 105.6 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice, plan on roughly 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 5 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for small clamps, gates and part pushers. Note that this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X20.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits slim fixtures, guarding and pick stations where a full-length body will not go. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches for end-of-stroke sensing. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt straight onto the standard face. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) at 30-500 mm/s.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ16X20-10S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

The ACEJ16X20-10S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Holds PCB jigs or machined pins in a drilling fixture, where the 10-20 mm adjustable stroke matches varying part heights without re-fixturing.
Kicks small cartons or blister packs off a light-duty line; about 60 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa handles parts up to roughly 5 kg.
With the fitted magnet driving CMSE or DMSE switches, a test station confirms the probe or stamp has fully seated before the cycle advances.
Size this bore by force: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to 20 mm raises it to 157.1 N - choose 16 mm when your load sits between those figures. The 10 mm adjustment window shortens the extend stroke only; it never lengthens it past 20 mm, and the stop is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can drift if air is lost. If you need position sensing, this S-coded unit already carries the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. Before ordering, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ACEJ16X20 replacement against your fixture.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 100.5 N and pulls 75.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 140.7 N push and 105.6 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. For real work, budget about 60 N of push at 0.5 MPa - roughly 5 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 safety margin. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s.
The -10 code adds a 10 mm external stop window: a stop screw shortens the 20 mm extend stroke anywhere down to 10 mm, though it cannot extend it further and it does not hold a load on air loss. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the ACEJ16X20 is the current ISO 21287 drop-in with the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm its mounting dimensions before swapping.
