AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ16X20-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ16X20-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø16mm bore and 20mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ16X20-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder trims its extend stroke on site: the -20 code gives a 20 mm stop-screw window, so the 20 mm stroke can be shortened anywhere in a 0-20 mm range. The 16 mm bore delivers 100.5 N push and 75.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (140.7 N / 105.6 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 20.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles on the ISO 21287 face.
The short ISO 21287 body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into cramped fixtures and guarding. In practice, plan for about 60 N (roughly 6 kg) of real work at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 5 kg vertically once you keep a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued; the current drop-in is ACEJ16X20, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping from the DIN-standard ACP footprint.

The 20 mm stroke, trimmed via the stop screw, pops a stop pin into a moving lane of cartons; the fixed TPU bumper absorbs the end-of-travel knock.
At 100.5 N push (0.5 MPa) this 16 mm bore sits between the 12 mm bore (56.5 N) and the 20 mm bore (157.1 N); step up if your part weight needs more than about 6 kg of usable push. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it never holds a load if air is lost. If you need position sensing, order the -S variant, since this code has no magnet and accepts no CMSE / DMSE switch. For new builds, specify the ACEJ16X20 instead.
